SIERRA CLUB SELECTS HAHN FOR CA-44
America’s Largest Grassroots Environmentalist Organization Gives Janice Hahn the Nod
SAN PEDRO, CA— Bolstering her re-election prospects, today Congresswoman Janice Hahn won a highly coveted endorsement from the United States’ largest grassroots environmental group, the Sierra Club.
“With the growing threat of global warming and the increasing influence of big oil and other corporate polluters in Washington, it is absolutely critical that we have as many defenders of our environment as possible in Congress,” said Al Sattler of the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter. “Janice Hahn has what it takes to stand up to the corporate special interests who pollute not only our environment, but the halls of Washington. She has a strong record of environmental protection and we are proud to stand with her for her re-election to Congress.”
Congresswoman Hahn has an extensive track record when it comes to environmental protections, stemming from her years on the LA City Council, and now in Congress. She’s fought tirelessly to green and clean the Port of Los Angeles, and as a result of her efforts, there’s been an 80% reduction in diesel truck smoke emission in the Harbor Area, and the Port now serves as an incubator hub for new local clean energy industries. And in Congress, Hahn has advocated for a reduction to our nation’s dependence on foreign oil by improving federal investment and policy for green energy, promoting ‘local energy,’ and leveling the playing field with big oil.
“To me, it is not negotiable—every American deserves clean air, clean water, and a safe and clean environment. I strongly believe that these are basic and fundamental rights that everyone in our country should enjoy,” said Congresswoman Hahn. “That’s why in Congress, I plan on continuing to fight against polluters by preventing any roll-backs on our current environmental protections while also pushing for stronger reforms that further guard our precious resources and natural environment. I am honored to have the Sierra Club’s support and look forward to working with them for years to come.”
