Healthcare

Janice has always been a strong supporter of universal health care, and as a member of Congress, she will fight to prevent any repeal of President Obama’s health care law. While she believes that President Obama’s health care law was a step in the right direction, if elected, Janice wants to work with Congressional Leaders to do more to improve access and expand coverage to more Americans. If elected, she plans to work with the Congressional Leadership to create a health care public option so that all Americans could have the opportunity to obtain health care coverage.

As a Councilwoman, Janice fought to secure health care for over 5,000 LAX Airport workers, and she stood side by side with Unite HERE workers along the hotel corridor at LAX to help them receive a living wage with health care benefits.

Medicare

Janice strongly opposes the Paul Ryan proposal to turn Medicare into a voucher program, which would effectively dismantle the program and further shift the burden of healthcare to our seniors.  She believes that we can reduce government waste in Medicare and make it more effective and efficient without dismantling it. The Affordable Care Act will save $500 billion in Medicare over ten years.  Additionally, Janice wants to implement electronic medical records and better coordinate healthcare services, especially for people suffering from multiple chronic illnesses.

Janice agrees with President Obama’s proposal for using Medicare’s purchasing power to reduce prescription drug costs for seniors as part of his deficit reduction plan. She also thinks that Congress should listen to small businesses about the overburden health care paperwork that they are required to fill out, and that Congress should encourage the use of electronic systems that costs less, are more efficient, and more user friendly for businesses.
