Janice learned carefully from the leadership of her father, County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, who bravely stood up for equality and civil rights. Janice has always believed that every person deserves equal rights, regardless of race, religion, age, gender or sexual orientation.
Janice has always been a staunch supporter of equal rights for all Americans, and has always strongly believed that every person should have the right to marry whomever he or she chooses, regardless of gender. As a Councilwoman, she stood up against Proposition 8 and has supported efforts to overturn it. She is strongly against the Defense of Marriage Act, and is proud of President Obama’s repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and his recent support of gay marriage. In Congress, Janice is a fighter for the LGBTQ community and will do everything she can to ensure equality for all Americans.
Janice is a cosponsor of H.R. 1116, “Respect for Marriage Act,” which repeals DOMA and restores the rights of all lawfully married couples – including same sex couples – to receive the benefits of marriage under federal law.
