The last several months of campaigning for Lieutenant Governor have been an amazing experience. I have traveled up and down the state and met so many new people and heard so many great ideas. And I learned that all of us really want the same thing - a better California.

I was so humbled by all the support I received. And I really enjoyed using this experience to educate people about the role of the Lieutenant Governor in California. Together, we focused on how the Lieutenant Governor can really transform our state. We can make higher education affordable and accessible to every young person. We can continue to protect the environment, but also focus on creating new jobs and getting every Californian back to work.

At the end of this hard fought campaign, I think we have made a difference - thanks to you.

I want to congratulate Gavin Newsom on running a good, clean campaign. He has done some groundbreaking work as mayor of San Francisco and I know that he will bring that experience to Sacramento to shake things up. I will be supporting him in November, and I hope that you will join me.

November is pivotal for Democrats. We must work together to elect Barbara Boxer, Jerry Brown, Gavin Newsom and the entire Democratic ticket. This is our year. Let's make California great again.

Thanks again for all your support,

LOS ANGELES CITY ATTORNEY CARMEN TRUTANICH, AND LOS ANGELES COUNCILMEMBERS PAUL KREKORIAN AND JOSÉ HUIZAR, ENDORSE JANICE HAHN FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Virtually the entire leadership of the City of Los Angeles supports Hahn

(LOS ANGELES) – Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich and Los Angeles City Councilmembers Paul Krekorian and José Huizar today announced their support for Janice Hahn for lieutenant governor.

They join Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Controller Wendy Greuel in endorsing Hahn, and Hahn now has 13 of the other 14 members of the City Council in her corner. By contrast, Mayor Gavin Newsom has been endorsed by only five members of the 11-member San Francisco Board of Supervisors – three of whom are his own appointees to the body.

“Janice Hahn has been an outstanding leader in the city of Los Angeles. She’s the best candidate in the race and I’m confident she will do a great job for all Californians,” Trutanich said. “She has the courage and commitment it’s going to take to move this state forward again.”

“I have witnessed Janice become a leader for California, and she is what we need right now,” Krekorian said. “Janice Hahn will make our ticket stronger against the Republicans in the fall.”

“Sitting next to Janice in Council chambers everyday, I have had a front-seat view of her real leadership, leadership that California needs right now,” Huizar said. “She will be the fighter we need in Sacramento to get California moving forward again.”

“I’m honored to receive the support of people who know me best,” Hahn said. “Together, we will work to get California working again.”

Trutanich was elected city attorney on May 19, 2009. Born and raised in the South Los Angeles neighborhood of San Pedro, California Lawyer magazine chose him as one of the top 10 in the field of environmental law and land use in his roles as practitioner and instructor. He has also was named a Southern California “Superlawyer” for the past four years in a row, and has received an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubell, the highest possible rating, in the areas of legal ability and ethical standards.

Krekorian was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2008 after three l years in the California State Assembly. Krekorian, who had previously served as the state’s Assistant Majority Leader, came to the City Council after leading the Burbank Board of Education out of financial collapse and a 20-year career in the private sector. The Second Council District includes the communities of Lake View Terrace, La Tuna Canyon, North Hollywood, Shadow Hills, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Sunland, Sun Valley, Tujunga, Valley Village, Valley Glen and Van Nuys.

Huizar was elected to the Council’s 14th District in 2005 and re-elected in 2007. Huizar has proven himself a staunch advocate for public safety, youth programs and sustainable economic development that provide jobs and services to the residents of his district and the city of Los Angeles. His district includes the diverse communities of Boyle Heights, Downtown, Eagle Rock, El Sereno, Garvanza, Glassell Park, Hermon, Highland Park and Mount Washington.

Hahn also has been endorsed in the Democratic primary by the California Labor Federation, Service Employees International Union, California Federation of Teachers, California Professional Firefighters, Communications Workers of America, Teamsters, Laborers International, EMILY’s List, National Organization for Women (NOW), National Women’s Political Caucus, Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), Los Angeles City Fire Department Chief Officers Association, Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association, Los Angeles Airport Police and Southern California Pipe Trades District Council 16, among many others.

COUNCILWOMAN JANICE HAHN CHALLENGES MAYORS AND CITY COUNCILS ACROSS AMERICA TO BOYCOTT ARIZONA

Date: April 28, 2010

From: Janice Hahn

To: The nation’s largest cities (Click here to see the approx 250 cities we are sending this to)

Dear City Leaders:

Yesterday, during the meeting of the Los Angeles City Council, I introduced a resolution to begin the process of terminating all City business with any business entity located in Arizona-essentially boycotting the state. I am writing to ask that you and your city do the same.

The immigration law recently adopted in Arizona is bad public policy. The law will not only lead to blatant racial profiling and civil rights violations, it will also negatively impact crime fighting.

Former Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates, who just passed away last week, was a very controversial figure. But he issued Special Order 40, which prevents LAPD officers from checking people’s immigration status. He believed -as many law enforcement experts do – that requiring people to prove their legal status is actually detrimental to public safety, because crimes go unreported and key witnesses feel intimidated.

The law in Arizona is troubling for many reasons, which is why I believe that a boycott of the state is necessary. Furthermore, the boycott will also send a message to other states that may be considering similar laws that such blatant attacks on civil rights will not be tolerated. We hope that Arizona will be the last state to pass this type of law, not just the first.

So, please stand with us and tell Arizona that it is not okay to enact racist laws. America is a nation of immigrants and we are a nation of tolerance. But, one thing we will not tolerate is hate. I urge you to pass a similar resolution in your city.

Sincerely,

JANICE HAHN

ASSEMBLYWOMAN NANCY SKINNER ENDORSES JANICE HAHN FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

On Earth Day, environmentalist Nancy Skinner joins team Hahn

(Los Angeles) – Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner, a former Berkeley city councilwoman, today endorsed Janice Hahn for Lieutenant Governor.

“I have sat with and asked Janice Hahn the tough questions , and her vision is my vision for California,” said Skinner. “Janice will protect our environment and open the doors to higher education for all Californians.”

“Nancy Skinner is an environmental warrior for California,” said Hahn. “We will work together to oppose offshore oil drilling and ensure jobs, growing opportunities and that the promise of the green economy are available to all Californians”.

In November 2008, Skinner was elected to represent the Bay Area’s 14th Assembly District. The district includes Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, Emeryville, Kensington, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Pleasant Hill, Richmond, San Pablo and parts of Oakland and El Sobrante.

In 2010, the Speaker of the Assembly appointed Skinner to a leadership position as chair of the Assembly Rules Committee. Assembly Rules Committee plays a vital role in the everyday business of the Assembly setting the rules of the house, assigning legislation to its appropriate committee, allocating members’ offices and overseeing Assembly payroll, members’ budgets and personnel matters.

A nationally renowned leader in the fight against global warming, she founded ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, an organization dedicated to helping local governments become environmental leaders. As executive director of ICLEI’s U.S. office, she launched the Cities for Climate Protection Program, the national movement of mayors and cities working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that now involves over 800 cities and counties.

Hahn also has been endorsed in the Democratic primary by the California Labor Federation, Service Employees International Union, California Federation of Teachers, California Professional Firefighters, Communications Workers of America, Teamsters, Laborers International, EMILY’s List, National Organization for Women (NOW), National Women’s Political Caucus, Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), Los Angeles City Fire Department Chief Officers Association, Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association, Los Angeles Airport Police and Southern California Pipe Trades District Council 16, among many others.
